Computer Scientist - Patent Attorney


Dr Detlef Struck holds a degree in computer science and is a patent attorney. His work focuses on the fields of information technology, in particular software-related inventions, and telecommunications.

His technical experience includes software-based analysis and diagnostic methods, control and monitoring of systems, facilities and devices, artificial intelligence methods such as machine learning and neural networks, speech and image processing, software engineering, Internet of Things, architecture and communication of computer networks and networked terminals, measurement, control and automation systems, digital circuits, microcontroller systems, optimisation and control of photovoltaic modules and systems, optimisation and control of scanners, printers, LiDAR systems and medical devices.

His client experience includes assisting start-ups, mid-sized companies, established companies and international corporations with patent applications and patent grants, opposition and appeal proceedings, and patent infringement, including entitlement requests, filing of protective letters, preliminary injunctions, determination of infringement damages, and nullity proceedings.

Mr. Struck trained as a patent attorney at the patent law firm Gille Hrabal, at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) and at the Federal Patent Court (BPatG) in Munich. He studied computer science at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and at the Centre de Recherche en Informatique de Nancy (CRIN). He then completed his doctorate at the Département Économie of the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (ENST) in Paris.

Mr Struck began his professional career as a management consultant with McKinsey & Co. in Germany and Switzerland. He then worked for Siemens in the central division of telecommunications networks and for Infratest as a director in Munich and managing director in London in the area of information technology and telecommunications, as well as managing partner of Simpson Carpenter GmbH and Alegas AG.
